Solan, May 28:
A tragic incident occurred late last night in the Tikkri Naryal area under the Parwanoo police station in Solan district, where two migrant workers lost their lives after coming into contact with a high-voltage power line.
According to reports, the two men were returning to their quarters on a motorcycle when they came into contact with overhead high-tension (HT) power lines that were hanging dangerously low over the road. Both sustained severe burns from the electric shock. Locals rushed them to the ESI Hospital in Parwanoo, where doctors declared them dead on arrival.
The deceased were identified as Basant Kumar (35), son of Shiv Mohan, a resident of Upadhyay Majher Pachnaw in Uttar Pradesh, and Brijesh Kumar (22), son of Ramdayal Sharma, from Dariya Baikunth village in Tamkuhi Raj Tehsil, Kushinagar district, Uttar Pradesh. Both were employed at a local printing press in Parwanoo and were returning home after their shift.
Initial police investigations revealed that the HT wires were indeed hanging low over the road and were live at the time of the incident. The tragedy could have been prevented if the power supply had been shut off in time. Early findings suggest that the accident was a result of negligence by staff on duty at the local electricity board in Parwanoo.
Post-mortems of the victims are being conducted, and the police are investigating the matter thoroughly. Authorities are also exploring possible disciplinary action against the responsible officials. Local residents have expressed deep sorrow over the incident and have called on the administration to take strict action against those found negligent.
