Shimla, May 28:
IPS officer Shalini Agnihotri, currently serving as Superintendent of Police (SP) Kangra, has been appointed to a senior position in the central government. The 2012-batch Himachal cadre officer has been posted as Deputy Secretary in the Department of School Education and Literacy, Ministry of Education, New Delhi. The appointment has been made under the Government of India’s Central Staffing Scheme, with formal orders issued by the Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT) on Wednesday.

Agnihotri, known for her firm administrative style and composed demeanor, took charge as SP Kangra in March 2023, becoming the district’s first woman to hold the position. Prior to this, she served as SP in key districts such as Kullu and Mandi. Over a span of nearly 13 years, she has left a significant mark in all her postings, particularly noted for her decisive leadership and community-focused policing.

As per the DoPT’s office memorandum, she will hold the new position for four years or until further orders, whichever comes earlier. The ministry has instructed that she be relieved from her current responsibilities with immediate effect and assume her new role within three weeks—failing which the deputation may be cancelled.

During her tenure as SP, Shalini Agnihotri has been recognized for her proactive approach in tackling drug abuse, strengthening cybercrime measures, and enhancing safety for women and children. Her leadership has brought visible results and earned her praise for her community outreach and effective law enforcement.

A native of Una district in Himachal Pradesh, Agnihotri began her IPS career in her home state and has consistently demonstrated dedication and integrity in service. Her central deputation marks a significant milestone in an already distinguished career.
