Chandigarh, May 28:
The city has recorded its first COVID-19-related death of the season, raising fresh concerns about the resurgence of the virus. A 40-year-old man from Ludhiana succumbed to the infection on Wednesday at Government Medical College and Hospital, Sector 32 (GMCH-32).

The patient had been admitted to the emergency ward four days earlier after experiencing severe breathing difficulties. Based on the seriousness of his symptoms, doctors conducted a COVID-19 test, which returned positive on Tuesday. Despite medical efforts, his condition deteriorated and he passed away the following day.

Dr. A.K. Atre, Director of GMCH-32, stated that the patient was immediately isolated and treatment was initiated without delay. However, due to the severity of the infection, his life could not be saved. In response, the hospital has now prepared a 10-bed special isolation unit as a precautionary measure.

This incident comes amid rising concerns over a possible resurgence of COVID-19 in Chandigarh and surrounding areas. Just days earlier, on May 23, a 51-year-old woman from Yamunanagar, Haryana, tested positive after attending a religious event in Mohali.
