Shimla, May 27:
Amid ongoing tensions between DGP Atul Verma and Shimla SP Sanjeev Gandhi over the investigation into the death of Chief Engineer Vimal Negi, the Himachal Pradesh government has made significant administrative changes.

Both senior officers have been sent on leave, and in their absence, the government has appointed Ashok Tiwari (IPS, 1993 batch) as the acting Director General of Police. Tiwari, who currently serves as DGP of the State Vigilance and Anti-Corruption Bureau, will hold the additional charge of DGP during Atul Verma’s leave.

Meanwhile, Gaurav Singh (IPS, 2013 batch) has been given additional charge as Superintendent of Police, Shimla. He is currently serving as SP Solan and will handle both roles until further notice.

The orders, signed by Chief Secretary Prabodh Saxena, take effect immediately.

This swift administrative reshuffle signals the state government’s firm stance on the internal discord within the police department. With growing public and political scrutiny around the Negi case, the government appears to be taking decisive steps to restore order and ensure impartial handling of the investigation.

While some view the developments as a move toward transparency and truth, others see it as a battle over reputation within the police ranks. Nonetheless, the government’s actions underline that it is treating the matter with utmost seriousness.
