Solan, May 27: A major mishap was narrowly avoided on Monday morning when a truck loaded with heavy iron pipes overturned on the Barog bypass near Kumarhatti along the Chandigarh-Shimla National Highway (NH-5). The vehicle was headed toward Solan at the time of the incident. Fortunately, no casualties were reported, but the accident caused significant disruption to traffic on the highway.
According to eyewitnesses, the truck had just crossed the flyover and was navigating a sharp curve when the driver lost control. The truck overturned, spilling its load of large iron pipes across the road—many of which rolled over to the opposite lane.
As a result, one lane in each direction of NH-5 was completely blocked. Vehicles traveling from Shimla to Chandigarh were particularly affected, with traffic slowing to a crawl and long queues forming in both directions.
Local administration and police teams quickly arrived at the scene and began managing the situation. Efforts are underway to clear the highway and restore normal traffic flow. In the meantime, authorities have implemented a temporary one-way traffic system to ease the congestion and ensure emergency and essential services are not hindered.
