Shimla, May 26 – Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu on Monday made a significant statement regarding the high-profile Vimal Negi case. Addressing the media in Shimla, the Chief Minister assured that the state government would extend full cooperation to the CBI in its investigation and uphold complete transparency.
He stated unequivocally that the government would comply with the High Court’s orders in letter and spirit, with no plans to file any appeal. “Whether Vimal Negi’s death was a suicide or involved other causes—every fact must come to light,” Sukhu said. “Our sole aim is to ensure justice, not to shield anyone or seek political advantage.”
Taking aim at the opposition, CM Sukhu accused the BJP of playing petty politics over a sensitive matter. “When Vimal Negi’s family and fellow employees staged a protest by placing his body on the road, Minister Jagat Negi personally requested action against the MD and Director of HPPCL. We responded promptly, and I personally assured Vimal Negi’s wife of a fair investigation. But now the BJP is politicizing the issue,” he said.
The Chief Minister noted that the government had initially constituted an inquiry committee under the chairmanship of Chief Secretary Omkar Sharma. However, internal discord within the police department also came to the fore during this period. Sukhu revealed that the DGP had recommended replacing the SIT investigating the case, but the government declined, deciding instead to hand the matter over to the CBI for the sake of impartiality.
He added that while the police submitted one report to the court, the DGP filed a separate affidavit—highlighting a serious lack of coordination. “This is not acceptable in a disciplined administration,” Sukhu said firmly.
Reinforcing the government’s zero-tolerance policy on insubordination, the Chief Minister stated, “Our government will not tolerate indiscipline at any level. A review is underway, and necessary decisions will be taken in the upcoming meeting. A high-level meeting has been convened to discuss all related developments in detail.”
Referring to the additional chief secretary’s report on the Pakhubela project, Sukhu said the report raises several serious allegations. However, he noted that the officials implicated in the report were not given a chance to present their side. “The government has, therefore, decided to seek legal advice before proceeding further,” he said.
‘BJP Engaging in Media Trial, Misleading the Public’
Targeting former Chief Minister Jairam Thakur, Sukhu accused the BJP of conducting a media trial and attempting to mislead the public. “Repeating falsehoods does not make them true,” he said. “Jairam Thakur should speak based on facts, not fiction.”
With this statement, CM Sukhu has sought to send a strong message—of commitment to justice, adherence to the rule of law, and zero tolerance for administrative indiscipline. As the investigation proceeds under the CBI, all eyes will remain on how the state navigates this politically sensitive and institutionally revealing case.
