Shimla, May 25:
The Himachal Pradesh High Court’s decision to hand over the high-profile Vimal Negi death case to the CBI has sent ripples through the state’s political and administrative circles. Reacting strongly to the development, the BJP has come down heavily on the Congress-led state government, raising serious concerns about the collapse of law and order.

Speaking at a press conference in Shimla, Leader of the Opposition Jairam Thakur accused the Sukhu government of being deeply entrenched in corruption and demanded the Chief Minister’s resignation on moral grounds.

Thakur said the High Court’s ruling had triggered panic within the government and police department. He highlighted the unprecedented situation where the SP of Shimla has leveled serious allegations against the DGP, calling it a blatant act of indiscipline. “It is unfortunate for a senior officer in a disciplined force like the police to publicly accuse a superior. If the SP is interested in politics, he should resign and formally enter the political arena,” Thakur remarked.

The BJP leader further alleged that the DGP’s report to the court hints at tampering with evidence and raises questions about the SP’s role—actions which, he said, could not have occurred without political backing. He also expressed concern over the involvement of ASI Pankaj, whose role remains under suspicion and whose life may be under threat.

The BJP also criticized the Advocate General for allegedly dismissing the Chief Secretary’s report and publicly commenting on court orders—an act they say borders on contempt of court.

Thakur noted that Himachal has never witnessed such internal discord within the police force. He reiterated BJP’s long-standing claim of rampant corruption within HPPCL (Himachal Pradesh Power Corporation Ltd), accusing the government of shielding tainted officials.

Welcoming the High Court’s decision to initiate a CBI probe, the BJP called it a significant step toward justice. The party also warned the government that public patience is wearing thin, and failure to restore order and transparency will invite a strong response from the people.
