Shimla, May 24:
Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Thakur Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu met Prime Minister Narendra Modi in New Delhi on Saturday, seeking generous financial support for the state and the swift release of pending funds. During the meeting, CM Sukhu informed the Prime Minister about the state government’s vision to make Himachal Pradesh self-reliant by 2032. He highlighted the various initiatives being launched and strengthened to achieve this goal.

The Chief Minister shared updates on state-led developments in tourism, green energy, hydropower, and other sectors. He strongly advocated for protecting Himachal’s interests in hydroelectric projects and urged for a defined timeline to return these projects to the state. Sukhu also pressed for enhanced royalty payments and the transfer of Public Sector Undertakings (PSUs) and Central Public Sector Undertakings (CPSUs) that have completed 40 years, back to the state government. He further requested the return of surplus land from these long-standing projects and raised concerns about increasing royalty once the project costs are recovered.

Among other key points, CM Sukhu discussed the proposed expansion of Kangra Airport and voiced concerns over safeguarding the interests of apple growers in the state. He urged the Prime Minister to review the ongoing import of apples from Turkey and other countries, which has raised apprehensions among local producers.

Prime Minister Modi assured CM Sukhu that the matter of apple imports would be reviewed and that other demands would be considered sympathetically.

Chief Secretary Prabodh Saxena was also present during the meeting.
