Mandi, May 20: A tragic road accident was reported late last night from the Seraj Assembly constituency in Mandi district. A 20-year-old youth lost his life when the Alto car he was driving plunged into a deep gorge near Kalhani village.
The accident occurred around midnight when the vehicle, bearing registration number HP 01M 4882, veered off the road and fell nearly 200 metres down a steep hillside. The car was being driven by Bhupender Kumar, a resident of Dhar village under Jarol Post Office, Thunag Tehsil. He died on the spot due to the severity of the impact.
The incident came to light when Uttam Ram, a local resident whose house is situated near the accident site, heard a loud crashing noise. He and his family rushed outside and, upon discovering the wreckage, immediately alerted the Aut police station.
Responding to the call, a police team led by SHO Karn Singh reached the site around 2:30 AM, with assistance from local residents, to recover the body. The remains were then sent for post-mortem to the Zonal Hospital in Mandi.
Police have registered a case and begun an investigation into the cause of the accident. All possible angles are being examined, including the condition of the road, vehicle, and possible human error.
The sudden demise of the young man has left the local community in deep shock.
