Una, May 16:
A tragic road accident occurred on Thursday evening in the Mehatpur market area of Una district, claiming the life of the Banganarh Panchayat Pradhan.

According to reports, Rakesh Kumar, the elected head of Banganarh, was in Mehatpur market around 9 PM on Thursday. While he was standing by the roadside attending a phone call, a speeding truck coming from the Una side lost control and collided with a parked pickup vehicle. The force of the impact pushed the pickup into a nearby shop wall, pinning the Pradhan between the vehicle and the wall.

Locals rushed to the spot and, with much effort, managed to free him from the wreckage. He was immediately taken to a private hospital in Una, where he succumbed to his injuries during treatment.

The deceased has been identified as Rakesh Kumar, son of Tarsem Lal, a resident of Bangarh, Post Office Jakheda. The Mehatpur police have taken possession of the body and sent it to the Regional Hospital Una for postmortem. A case has been registered against the truck driver, and an investigation is underway.
