Shimla, May 13:
In the wake of recent India-Pakistan tensions and the subsequent ceasefire, the Congress party has reiterated its demand for a special session of Parliament. Supporting this call, Himachal Pradesh Cabinet Minister Vikramaditya Singh emphasized the need for a detailed discussion on the issue to send a unified message to the nation.

Singh commended India’s decisive response to the Pahalgam terror attack, stating that the entire country stands behind Prime Minister Narendra Modi on this matter. He praised the Indian Army for its strong and effective action, calling it a significant step in safeguarding national security.

However, he also pointed out the lack of clarity regarding recent comments by the U.S. President on the ceasefire. “Even in the Prime Minister’s address to the nation, there was no specific mention of this issue,” Singh said. In light of this, he maintained that Congress’s demand for a special session is fully justified, and that open debate on all related matters is necessary, especially since the opposition has extended full support to the government during this sensitive time.

Vikramaditya Singh also urged the central government to immediately halt apple imports from Turkey. He argued that Turkey, much like China, has taken a pro-Pakistan stance during a time of conflict, reflecting a clear anti-India sentiment. “Continuing trade under such circumstances, especially in agricultural products like apples, directly harms the interests of Himachal’s orchardists,” he said.

He assured that both the Chief Minister and the state government would raise the issue forcefully with the Centre to protect the interests of the state’s farmers and horticulturists.
