Shimla, May 13:
The fight against drug trafficking in Himachal Pradesh’s capital continues to intensify, as the Shimla Police Special Cell arrested four individuals — including a young woman — with heroin (locally known as chitta) on Monday. This latest arrest once again highlights the growing involvement of young women in the drug trade in the region.

According to police, the operation was conducted on May 13 in the Hayun village near Neri, under the jurisdiction of the Baluganj Police Station. Acting on a tip-off, the Special Cell raided the Ashwini Bhawan area, where the four accused were found in possession of drugs.

Those arrested have been identified as Rajat Sharma (21) from Mandi, Smriti Thakur (23) from Theog, Vinay Chauhan (32) from Jubbal, and Abhishek Verma (26) from Devnagar, Kasumpti. All four were reportedly living in Shimla on rent.

A search of the premises led to the recovery of 11.520 grams of heroin. The suspects were taken into custody on the spot, and a case has been registered under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act. Police are currently interrogating the accused to trace the origin and supply network of the contraband.

This incident follows a similar case just a day earlier in the same Baluganj area, where three individuals — including a 19-year-old woman — were caught with heroin. The recurrence of such cases points to the growing penetration of hard drugs among Shimla’s youth and the increasing participation of young women in this illegal trade.

Shimla Superintendent of Police Sanjeev Gandhi stated that the campaign against narcotics will continue with even greater intensity in the coming days.
