Una, May 11:
Panic spread in the Tattehra village of Gagret subdivision on Sunday morning after a balloon resembling an aircraft and marked with “PIA”—believed to represent Pakistan International Airlines—was found entangled in a tree near a local residence. The object, bearing Urdu inscriptions, prompted concerns of potential espionage or surveillance.

As word of the discovery spread, curious onlookers began gathering at the site. The balloon’s appearance, amid lingering tensions between India and Pakistan following the recent Pahalgam massacre and subsequent ceasefire, only added to the anxiety among locals. Initially, there was speculation that the balloon might contain surveillance equipment or a tracking device.

Upon receiving the report, Gagret police quickly reached the scene and took the balloon into custody. A preliminary inspection revealed no electronic components or suspicious attachments.

DSP Dr. Vasudha Sood confirmed that similar balloons have previously been discovered in various parts of Himachal Pradesh. However, given the current heightened tensions, police acted swiftly to investigate the matter. She added that while the balloon does not pose a threat, the incident is being thoroughly examined as a precautionary measure.

Police have assured residents that there is no immediate danger and urged the public to remain calm while staying alert to any unusual sightings.
