Shimla, May 10: Amid heightened tensions between India and Pakistan, signs of danger have reached Himachal Pradesh. Missile debris fell at three locations — two in Kangra district and one in the Chintpurni area of Una district — during the night. Tragically, two animals lost their lives in the incident. Chief Minister Thakur Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu confirmed the development during an informal interaction with the media on Saturday.
He stated that the Indian Army’s defense systems had successfully neutralized the incoming missile mid-air, but some fragments still reached the ground, causing collateral damage. By the time of reporting, both nations had agreed to a ceasefire, which officially came into effect at 5 PM.
The Chief Minister said that district administrations have been put on high alert, and security protocols are being reinforced. Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) followed in the sensitive Pathankot zone are now being implemented across Indora subdivision in Kangra and surrounding areas.
“The safety of Himachal’s citizens remains our top priority,” CM Sukhu said, adding that the Chief Minister’s Office, the Chief Secretary’s Office, and the State Disaster Management Authority will remain operational even during holidays to ensure swift response and relief measures.
He emphasized that the state government is working in close coordination with central authorities, the armed forces, and other security agencies to monitor all developments, particularly in border areas. “The entire administration is on alert, and every movement is being closely observed,” he noted.
Earlier in the day, the Chief Minister convened a high-level meeting at the state secretariat to assess the current security scenario. He instructed senior officials to be prepared for any contingency and reiterated that the state is fully capable of responding to any challenge.
CM Sukhu confirmed the discovery of drone and missile debris in several areas and urged citizens to remain calm and vigilant. He also stated that border districts are following the same protocols as neighboring states, in compliance with central government directives.
Reassuring the public, he said, “The state government is taking all necessary steps, and I urge people across Himachal to stay alert, aware, and united in the face of these challenges.”
