Shimla, May 1: Weather conditions across Himachal Pradesh have deteriorated due to the active western disturbance affecting the region. Several parts of the state, including the capital Shimla, experienced rain accompanied by thunder on Wednesday. Heavy showers began in Shimla during the afternoon, leading to a noticeable drop in temperature and a chill in the air. While this change brought some relief from the intense heat in the lower regions, the forecast of unsettled weather for the coming week has raised concerns.

The Meteorological Centre in Shimla has issued a warning of adverse weather conditions across the state until May 7, including the possibility of thunderstorms and lightning. A yellow alert has been issued for several areas. From May 2 to May 6, wind speeds are expected to range between 40–50 km/h, with slightly calmer but still significant gusts of 30–40 km/h predicted for May 7. Authorities have advised residents to remain in safe locations and stay updated on weather conditions before traveling.

Heavy rainfall is likely in many parts of the state on May 5 and 6. Higher altitudes may also witness light snowfall, particularly in the elevated regions of Lahaul-Spiti, Kinnaur, and Kullu districts. Strong winds and rainfall could potentially damage crops and disrupt power supply.

In particular, wheat harvesting in the plains may be adversely affected by the ongoing weather changes. While the last 24 hours remained mostly dry across the state, some areas did experience gusty winds, though no significant damage was reported. Wind speeds reached 44 km/h in places like Siyobagh and Bajuara, and 43 km/h in Tabo and Reckong Peo, resulting in a 2 to 3°C dip in maximum temperatures—providing some respite from the heat.

As for temperatures, the state recorded minimum temperatures around 3°C above the seasonal average on Thursday. Shimla reported a low of 15.5°C. Other notable readings include: Sundernagar at 21.4°C, Bhuntar 18.1°C, Kalpa 9.2°C, Dharamshala 16.8°C, Una 20.5°C, Nahan 16.7°C, Keylong 5.5°C, Solan 18°C, Manali 12.7°C, Kangra 23.8°C, Mandi 22.2°C, Bilaspur 21.9°C, Hamirpur 22.2°C, Chamba 18.5°C, Dalhousie 16.1°C, Jubbarhatti 19.1°C, Kufri 12.4°C, Kukumseri 7.2°C, Narkanda 10.2°C, Bharmour 15.2°C, Reckong Peo 12.8°C, Siyobagh 16°C, Dhaula Kuan 23.2°C, Barthin 20.9°C, and Bato 7.9°C.
