Disaster Preparedness to Be Tested Ahead of IPL Matches in Dharamshala; Mock Drill Scheduled for April 25
Kangra District Magistrate, Hemraj Bairwa
Dharamshala, April 23 – In preparation for the upcoming TATA IPL T20 matches at the Dharamshala Cricket Stadium, the district administration will conduct a mock drill on April 25 to assess disaster preparedness at the venue. Ahead of this, a tabletop exercise will be held on April 24 at the Deputy Commissioner’s office to review the Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association’s disaster management plan with relevant officials.
Deputy Commissioner Hemraj Bairwa emphasized the importance of having a comprehensive disaster management plan in place for every large-scale event. He noted that mock drills are essential to ensure effective coordination and timely response in case of any emergency. “All possible efforts are being made to ensure the safety and convenience of both spectators and players during the IPL matches,” he said.
The District Disaster Management Authority has also developed a crowd control plan to ensure smooth operations during the games.
Three TATA IPL T20 matches are scheduled to be held at the Dharamshala Cricket Stadium on May 4, May 8, and May 11. In this context, the Deputy Commissioner has directed all concerned departments to complete all necessary preparations in advance. These include arrangements related to law and order, traffic and parking management, health services, power and water supply, road repairs, sanitation, and fire safety.
The DC instructed the police department to ensure robust security and law enforcement during the matches. The Public Works Department (PWD) has been directed to promptly complete repair works on roads in and around Dharamshala.
Additionally, numbered signboards will be installed at designated parking areas, along with directional signage guiding spectators from exit gates to parking zones, to enhance public convenience.
