Junga’s Daughter Ayushi Thakur Receives Grand Welcome After Securing IRS Rank in UPSC Exam
Local people and officials welcoming Ayushi in Junga
Shimla, April 24 – Ayushi Thakur, a native of Junga in Himachal Pradesh, has made her hometown proud by securing 325th rank in the prestigious UPSC Civil Services Examination. On Thursday, she was warmly welcomed in Junga with flower garlands and traditional dhol-nagada drums. A special felicitation ceremony was held at the local panchayat house, drawing enthusiastic participation from the community.
Ayushi has become the first woman from the Junga region to crack the UPSC exam and earn selection into the Indian Revenue Service (IRS). Before her, in 2013, Bhanu Pratap Singh Tanwar from Chamiyana Sangti had achieved this milestone; he currently serves as a Joint Commissioner in the Government of India.
Ayushi hails from Bhadech Panchayat. Her father, Madan Mohan, is the current panchayat pradhan, and her mother, Sulakshana, is a homemaker. She completed her early education at Kyunthal Convent School, Junga, and finished high school at Auckland School, Shimla. She later graduated from Delhi University and earned a diploma in Women’s Empowerment from IGNOU.
What makes her success even more commendable is that she achieved it without any formal coaching. Despite failing in her first two attempts, Ayushi remained determined and cleared the exam on her third try.
In her address, Ayushi spoke passionately about the need to focus on girls’ education, especially in rural areas. “Girls are excelling in every field,” she said, “yet their education is still not given enough importance in many villages. This needs to change.” She dedicated her success to her parents and urged young aspirants to dream big and not fear failure, saying, “Each setback brings a lesson. Keep learning, and success will follow.”
The event was attended by Junga Tehsildar Narayan Verma, Panchayat Pradhan Bansilal Kashyap, Traders’ Association President Rajesh Kaushal, Secretary Ramesh Soni, and representatives from the State Cooperative Bank, Gramin Bank, and a large number of local residents.
