Ultra-triathlete earns global recognition, to represent India at Nice in September 2025
Shimla, April 16 – Bringing pride to Himachal Pradesh and the nation, Bilaspur’s Mayank Vaid (48) has qualified for the Iron Man World Championship to be held in Nice, France, in September 2025. A globally recognized ultra-triathlete and Guinness World Record holder, Mayank continues to inspire with his dedication, endurance, and grit.
Mayank secured his spot in the prestigious global event by putting up a stellar performance at the Iron Man Taiwan 2025, held on Penghu Island. Competing in the highly demanding 45–49 years age category, he completed the grueling triathlon – consisting of 3.8 km sea swimming, 180 km cycling, and a 42.2 km marathon – in an impressive 10 hours and 34 minutes, finishing 5th among over 1,000 international athletes.
Fighting Fierce Winds and Rising Above
Despite facing harsh winds during the swimming and cycling stages, Mayank’s determination saw him through to the finish line. Sharing the podium with elite athletes from Spain, Taiwan, and Vietnam, he proudly represented India, making his mark as one of the top global competitors.
Mayank, a native of Noa village in Kothipura, Bilaspur, is the son of late Ashok Kumar, a former BSF DIG, and Neeru Vaid, daughter of a former Human Rights Commission member of Himachal Pradesh. Beyond his athletic pursuits, Mayank is a solicitor in Hong Kong and currently serves in senior leadership at LVMH, overseeing markets across Asia, Pacific, and China.
Trailblazer for Youth
Previously, Mayank made headlines by entering the Guinness Book of World Records for completing the fastest 10 marathons in 10 days on a treadmill. With each achievement, he continues to be a beacon of motivation for the youth, showing what passion and persistence can achieve.
Now, with his qualification secured, all eyes will be on September 14, 2025, when India’s flag will fly high once again at the Iron Man World Championship in France – with Mayank Vaid at the forefront.
