The 135th birth anniversary of Dr. Bhimrao Ambedkar, the chief architect of the Indian Constitution, was observed with deep reverence across Himachal Pradesh and the country. Marking the occasion, Governor Shiv Pratap Shukla paid floral tributes to Dr. Ambedkar at Ambedkar Chowk, Chaura Maidan, Shimla.
Joining the Governor were Health and Social Justice Minister Col. Dr. Dhaniram Shandil, Leader of Opposition Jairam Thakur, and several other dignitaries, who honored the legacy of Dr. Ambedkar for his tireless efforts toward social justice, equality, and the upliftment of marginalized communities.

In his message, Governor Shukla said, “Dr. Ambedkar dedicated his life to the upliftment of the poor, the oppressed, and Dalits. His vision of equality, fraternity, and unity is more relevant today than ever.”
Minister Dr. Shandil added, “India stands today as a vibrant democracy thanks to the inclusive Constitution crafted by Baba Saheb. His contribution is eternal.”
Former CM Jairam Thakur also acknowledged Dr. Ambedkar’s role in giving post-independence India a strong constitutional foundation, stating, “His life remains a beacon of perseverance, service, and justice.”
Statewide Celebrations Reflect Ambedkar’s Lasting Legacy
Across Himachal Pradesh, various programs were held to commemorate the day, including seminars, cultural programs, rallies, and discussions in which students, scholars, and the general public participated enthusiastically.
The event at Ambedkar Chowk was attended by several prominent figures including Shimla Mayor Surinder Chauhan, DC Anupam Kashyap, SP Sanjeev Gandhi, MC Commissioner Bhupender Attri, local councillors, and members of the Baba Saheb Ambedkar Welfare Society.
