Mandi, April 14:
Former District Congress Committee President Deepak Sharma has written to Union Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari, demanding the construction of a flyover on the Kiratpur-Manali four-lane highway near Tunnel No. 7, which connects Mandi city.

Sharma highlighted that while Chief Minister Thakur Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu has already facilitated a two-lane connector road from Mandi city to the four-lane, safety issues have emerged due to the lack of proper merging infrastructure. Vehicles entering the highway often end up on the wrong lane, creating a high-risk zone prone to head-on collisions.

He stated that numerous schools, ITIs, and educational institutes are located along the stretch, and many students travel daily via buses and private vehicles. The absence of a proper flyover or merging point raises serious concerns, as previous accidents have already occurred at the location.

“A Flyover is Crucial for Safe Access,” Says Sharma

In his letter, Sharma has urged Minister Gadkari to sanction a flyover at the junction and install proper traffic indicators and signage to prevent confusion. He emphasized that such infrastructure will ensure smoother traffic flow, enhance road safety, and prevent further mishaps for thousands of commuters from Mandi and surrounding areas.

The demand is gaining traction among locals, who are hopeful that the Union Minister will take swift action on the matter.
