Volvo Bus Overturns on Chandigarh-Manali Highway Near Mandi, 40 Tourists Narrowly Escape
Quick police response prevents major tragedy; minor injuries reported, probe underway
Pandoh (Mandi), April 13:
In a narrow escape from what could have been a major tragedy, a private Volvo bus carrying 35 to 40 tourists overturned early Sunday morning on the Chandigarh-Manali National Highway near the Vindravani area, close to the Municipal Corporation’s dumping site in Mandi.
The bus, en route from Chandigarh to Manali, reportedly lost control around 4 AM, causing it to flip on the road. Fortunately, the vehicle did not plunge into the nearby river, sparing the lives of all passengers on board.
Minor Injuries, Swift Medical Response
While most passengers sustained minor injuries, all were promptly transported to Zonal Hospital Mandi via four ambulances. The quick response from both medical teams and local police ensured no delay in care.
SP Mandi Sakshi Verma confirmed the incident, stating that a case has been registered under Sadar Police Station and the cause of the accident is currently under investigation.
Traffic Disruption and Ongoing Clearance Work
The overturned bus caused partial road blockage, leading to one-way traffic along the busy highway. With the region seeing heavy tourist influx during this season, traffic control has become critical. Police have been deployed on-site to manage the situation and avoid jams.
Efforts are currently underway to remove the overturned vehicle using heavy machinery and restore full traffic flow as soon as possible.
