Mandi, April 11: MP Kangana Ranaut has hit back at the Himachal Pradesh State Electricity Board, challenging the board to verify her previous year’s electricity bills. The controversy arose after the Board clarified the billing details of her Manali residence, which Kangana claims are exaggerated and politically motivated.

Speaking to the media after presiding over a Disha Committee meeting in Mandi, Kangana said,

“If the bills of the last year are really close to ₹1 lakh, I am ready to take my words back.”

She asserted that her past electricity bills have consistently ranged between ₹5,000 and ₹6,000, and questioned how a pending amount of ₹20,000 for two months suddenly ballooned to ₹70,000 in fresh charges.

“I haven’t made any expansions to the property, nor have I set up any factory. Then how is such a high bill justified?” she asked, adding that it’s unfair to politicize her personal matters. She accused the government and the board of spreading false information and misleading the public.

“Government employees should not lie like this. I am also a common citizen of Himachal,” Kangana added firmly.

Earlier in the day, Kangana chaired her first Disha Committee meeting as MP, held at the DRDA auditorium in Mandi. The meeting was attended by officials from all major departments, where updates on centrally sponsored schemes were presented.

During the meeting, Kangana was seen reprimanding NHAI officials over the delay in the four-lane highway construction between Mandi and Pandoh. She directed them to complete the project within the stipulated timeline, emphasizing the importance of infrastructure in regional development.

Kangana also reiterated her commitment to PM Modi’s roadmap for Himachal, saying that she intends to bring central schemes to the grassroots level. Addressing questions about the delay in forming the Disha Committee, she said,

“Unlike other MPs, I had already begun public outreach and was distributing my MP fund long before this committee was officially formed.”

As the electricity bill row continues to stir public interest, Kangana’s assertive stance and challenge to the board have added fuel to the ongoing political discourse in the state.
