Chitta smuggler with police team
Hamirpur, April 11: In a major success for Himachal Pradesh Police’s ongoing crackdown on narcotics, a joint team from the Special Investigation Unit (SIU) has recovered 130 grams of chitta (heroin) from a local resident in Hamirpur district.
The arrested accused has been identified as Sanjay, son of late Balbir Singh, a resident of village Seu under Bhoranj police station limits. The estimated value of the seized heroin is ₹15 lakh in the local market, while it could fetch over ₹30 lakh in the international market, according to Superintendent of Police, Hamirpur.
A case under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act has been registered at Bhoranj police station, and further investigations are currently underway. Authorities suspect that the accused might be part of a larger interstate or international drug trafficking network.
Speaking on the development, the SP stated, “The police will continue to intensify the campaign against drug abuse. Every effort is being made to prevent this dangerous substance from reaching the youth. Our message is clear—there is zero tolerance for drug smuggling.”
This significant bust sends a strong message to drug peddlers across the state and marks another step forward in the battle against the growing menace of narcotics in the region.
