Shimla, 7 April:
In a growing trend of online frauds, a man from Theog was scammed out of Rs 4.90 lakh through a deceptive mobile application. The case, reported at Parwanoo police station, highlights the increasing risks associated with online investment schemes.

Arun Sharma, the complainant, revealed that in January, he had invested Rs 4,36,200 using a UPI ID on a mobile app called “Niji Security Limited” under the pretense of making stock market gains. The app displayed an impressive rise in his funds, showing a total of Rs 10.88 lakh after his investment.

However, when Sharma attempted to withdraw his funds on February 28, he was unable to receive any money. Distressed, he contacted the customer care number listed on the app, where he was instructed to deposit an additional Rs 54,000 to facilitate the withdrawal. Trusting the instructions, Sharma transferred the money, but once again, no funds were returned. Realizing he had fallen victim to a scam, Sharma filed a complaint with the police.

Solan SP Gaurav Singh confirmed that a case has been registered at Parwanoo police station based on Sharma’s complaint. In response to the growing number of such frauds, the police have urged the public to thoroughly research and exercise caution before investing in unknown online platforms or schemes. The investigation into the case is currently ongoing, as authorities work to track down the perpetrators.

This incident serves as a stark reminder for people to stay vigilant and avoid falling victim to fraudulent schemes that exploit unsuspecting individuals.
