Special check post leads to the arrest of drug smugglers, highlighting Bilaspur’s ongoing battle against drug trafficking
Shimla, April 8:
In a significant victory for the ongoing anti-drug operations, Bilaspur police have arrested two drug smugglers from Punjab, recovering a substantial 2.56 kg of hashish (cannabis) during a routine vehicle check. The operation, conducted by the district’s special detection team, took place at a specially set-up check post on the four-lane highway.
The arrested smugglers have been identified as 35-year-old Raman, son of Yashpal from Fatehgarh, Ludhiana, and 37-year-old Amit Kumar, son of Satish Kumar from Azad Nagar, Ludhiana. Both were travelling in a suspicious Maruti Ertiga car (registration number PB23V9063) when they were stopped for a routine search. The police discovered a significant amount of hashish hidden in the trunk of the vehicle.
Following their arrest, a case has been filed against the duo under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act at the Ghumarwin police station.
Initial investigations have revealed that the accused were attempting to smuggle the narcotics from Punjab into Himachal Pradesh. Police are now working to identify other individuals involved in this drug trafficking network and trace the intended destination of the narcotics.
This successful operation further demonstrates Bilaspur’s commitment to curbing the drug menace in the region and serves as a reminder of the district police’s efforts to maintain vigilance against drug trafficking. The police have vowed to continue their crackdown on illegal substances to ensure the safety and well-being of the community.
