Shimla, 07 April: The Blind Association of Himachal Pradesh, which has been protesting for over a year, once again blocked traffic outside the Chota Shimla Secretariat on Monday. The protest, which has now stretched to 535 days, centers around the demand for the one-time filling of backlog quota recruitments in various government departments.

The Association has accused Kiran Bhadana, the Director of the SC, OBC, Minority, and Specially Abled Empowerment Department, of misbehavior and issued a call for her resignation. According to the Blind Association, despite numerous rounds of discussions, no progress has been made in addressing their demands for the backlog recruitments, leaving them with no choice but to continue their protests.

The Association representatives claim that the government, despite its promises of systemic change and happiness, has neglected the rights of visually impaired individuals, pushing them onto the streets in protest. They also accused Bhadana of providing inaccurate figures during official discussions and treating their concerns with disdain.

As the protest continues, the Blind Association’s leaders have reiterated their demand for a clear commitment to fulfilling the backlog quota recruitment. With no resolution in sight, the visually impaired community’s frustration is only growing, as their 535-day-long struggle for justice presses on.
