Shimla, April 6: In a major step towards the development of Shimla’s urban landscape, Chief Minister Thakur Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu chaired a high-level meeting with senior officers today to review the plans for the construction of a grand new complex in the Sabzi Mandi area of Shimla. The proposed complex, designed to serve multiple purposes, will include offices of the Shimla Municipal Corporation, a shopping complex, hotels, residential flats, shops, parking facilities, and several other amenities.

The project aims to promote tourism in Shimla by significantly expanding the city’s urban infrastructure. The development will take place in two phases on 14 bighas of land, with the first phase covering about 4 lakh square feet and the second phase spanning 1.4 lakh square feet. The state government has allocated approximately Rs 200 crore for the construction of the first phase, which is expected to enhance the city’s infrastructure and cater to the growing needs of both residents and tourists.

During the meeting, Chief Minister Sukhu instructed the officers to begin the construction work for the first phase at the earliest. He also emphasized that the development would include the redevelopment of the employee colony in the area, aiming to improve living conditions for local staff. Sukhu highlighted the importance of this initiative in enhancing the beauty of Shimla’s urban landscape and boosting tourism in the city.

The Chief Minister also encouraged the Shimla Municipal Corporation to engage with local residents to ensure a smooth implementation of the project, addressing any concerns that might arise during the development process.

Mayor of Shimla Municipal Corporation, Surendra Chauhan, expressed his gratitude to the Chief Minister for approving this significant project. He stated that the new complex would be a milestone in the development of Shimla, solving long-standing local problems while also expanding the city’s tourism potential.

Other key attendees of the meeting included Rural Development and Panchayati Raj Minister Anirudh Singh, MLAs Mohan Lal Brakta and Harish Janartha, Deputy Mayor Uma Kaushal, Chief Secretary Prabodh Saxena, Additional Chief Secretary Kamlesh Kumar Pant, Secretary to Chief Minister Rakesh Kanwar, Secretary Rajesh Sharma, along with other senior officers and Shimla Municipal Corporation Councillors.
