Shimla, March 30 – In a major drug bust, the Shimla police have arrested a 20-year-old youth with 3 kg and 6 grams of hashish in the Jubbal police station area, located in the capital city of Himachal Pradesh. The arrested individual has been identified as Prabhakar Chauhan, a resident of Jotri village, Uttarkashi, Uttarakhand. Police have charged him under Sections 20, 61, and 85 of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act.
The arrest came after the Special Investigation Unit (SIU) of Shimla Police conducted a routine patrol in the Anti and Kaddu areas late on Saturday night. The police team, led by Head Constable Puneet Sharma (Buckle No. 54), noticed a young man behaving suspiciously around 9:55 PM. Upon stopping him for a search, they discovered the large quantity of hashish hidden on his person.
The seized drugs, weighing 3 kg and 6 grams, have been confiscated by the authorities, and the accused was immediately taken into custody. Chauhan, who hails from a village in Uttarkashi, is being interrogated by the police to determine the source of the narcotic substances and the intended recipient of the drugs. Investigators are also looking into whether the youth was connected to a larger drug trafficking operation.
The arrest is part of an ongoing effort by the Shimla police to curb drug-related activities in the region. Authorities have been working tirelessly to tackle the growing drug menace in Himachal Pradesh, particularly in the capital Shimla, which has seen a rise in cases involving the smuggling and distribution of narcotics.
Shimla Superintendent of Police Sanjeev Gandhi reaffirmed the police department’s commitment to combating drug trafficking in the area. “Our campaign against drugs will continue with full force. We will take strict action against individuals involved in such illegal activities,” said Gandhi. He also urged citizens to cooperate with law enforcement in reporting any suspicious activities that might be related to drug trafficking.
This arrest comes at a time when the state of Himachal Pradesh is facing increasing concerns about drug abuse, particularly among the youth. Local authorities have been stepping up their efforts to curb the rising trend of substance abuse by strengthening police patrols, increasing surveillance, and conducting regular raids on suspected drug hotspots.
The investigation into Prabhakar Chauhan’s involvement in the drug trade is ongoing, and the police are working to uncover any potential links to larger networks of narcotic suppliers. As the authorities intensify their crackdown on drug smuggling, they are determined to send a strong message to those involved in the illegal drug trade that such activities will not be tolerated.
The arrest is seen as a significant step in the fight against drugs in Himachal Pradesh, and police officials have vowed to continue their vigilance to ensure the safety and well-being of the community.
