Solan, March 29, 2025: A fire erupted on the roof of a rain shelter located in front of the Old DC Office and Sainik Rest House in Solan district today. The fire, which quickly spread to the electrical wires above the roof, caused significant damage, with the wires being burned to ashes. Fortunately, no casualties have been reported so far.

The incident occurred during the afternoon, when local residents noticed smoke and flames rising from the roof of the rain shelter. Eyewitnesses reported that prior to the fire, a group of devotees had passed through the area carrying the flame of Mata. These devotees had reportedly set off sky shots, a form of firework that produces sparks in the air. It is suspected that one of these sparks from the sky shots may have fallen onto the roof of the shelter, igniting the fire.

The local community immediately alerted the fire station, and within moments, the fire brigade rushed to the scene to contain the flames. The fire department’s swift response was crucial in preventing the fire from spreading further. Firefighters are currently working on extinguishing any remaining flames and ensuring that the area is safe.

Eyewitnesses described the situation as alarming, with the fire rapidly spreading across the roof and the wires above. Local residents, who were already concerned about the risks of fireworks during festivals, expressed their worries about the potential hazards such incidents can pose to the community.

“The fire spread quickly, and we were all worried it could cause more damage. Thankfully, the fire brigade arrived in time to control the situation. It seems like a spark from the sky shot may have ignited the fire,” said one of the local residents who witnessed the incident.

The rain shelter, which serves as a refuge for people seeking cover during inclement weather, was partly damaged in the blaze. The wires above the roof were completely destroyed, but no reports of casualties have emerged, and no other buildings in the vicinity were affected by the fire.

Authorities are now investigating the cause of the fire in more detail, including examining the role of the sky shots in triggering the flames. Local officials have urged the public to exercise caution when handling fireworks, especially in areas with combustible materials, to prevent similar incidents in the future.

As the fire department continues its relief efforts, Solan residents are expressing their gratitude for the quick response of the fire brigade and local authorities. There is a sense of relief that the situation did not escalate further, and the community remains vigilant in addressing the potential risks associated with fireworks during the ongoing festivities.

At present, the area is being cleared and secured by fire officials, and it is expected that full control over the fire will be achieved shortly. Local authorities have also called for an awareness campaign about fire safety, particularly during festival seasons, to prevent such incidents from occurring again.
