Shimla, March 27: In a significant move aimed at creating international employment opportunities for the youth of Himachal Pradesh, Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu chaired a meeting of the Board of Directors of the Himachal Pradesh State Electronics Development Corporation (HPSEDC) on Thursday. During the meeting, he instructed the corporation to actively work towards providing foreign employment opportunities for the state’s youth.
The Chief Minister emphasized the importance of creating global avenues for the skilled youth of Himachal Pradesh, especially given the challenges of local unemployment. “The youth of our state possess immense talent and skills. By connecting them with international job markets, we can empower them and improve their livelihood prospects,” said Sukhu.
As part of the initiative, Sukhu directed HPSEDC to develop a track and trace system for youth who secure employment abroad, ensuring transparency and support for their journey. This move aims to protect and assist the state’s workforce once they go abroad, offering a safety net that can guide them through legal, logistical, and employment-related issues.
The board also approved a comprehensive recruitment process to align with the Emigration Act of 1983, thereby ensuring the recruitment of workers for foreign employment follows established legal norms. The corporation was further instructed to register with the office of the Protector General of Emigrants, New Delhi, under the Ministry of External Affairs, ensuring that all foreign job placements meet legal and ethical standards.
The initiative is expected to benefit a wide range of skilled and semi-skilled workers from Himachal Pradesh who are seeking better job prospects abroad. The move is part of the state government’s broader strategy to reduce local unemployment while creating sustainable opportunities for the state’s youth in global markets.
Additionally, the Board of Directors approved the continuation of the Samagra Shiksha Abhiyan—an integrated educational program aimed at providing quality education to all children in the state. The program has been crucial in enhancing the educational framework and has received widespread support from the state government.
In the same meeting, the Board also approved the recruitment of new personnel for HPSEDC. The corporation will fill two vacant positions for Junior Office Assistant (JOA IT) and two posts for Multi-Task Workers, further strengthening its administrative capacity to support the growing demands of the state’s IT and electronics sectors.
The meeting was attended by several high-ranking officials, including Chief Secretary Prabodh Saxena, Secretaries Priyanka Basu and Rakhil Kahlon, Director of Industries Yunus, Director of Information Technology Nipun Jindal, and Managing Director of HPSEDC Virendra Sharma. Special Secretary of Finance, Rohit Jamwal, also participated in the discussions.
Sukhu’s focus on international employment for Himachal’s youth aligns with the state’s broader objective of improving youth engagement in the global economy. By encouraging skill development and facilitating international job placements, the government aims to reduce migration issues while empowering young professionals with the skills necessary for success in competitive global job markets.
The Chief Minister’s vision is clear—by creating opportunities for Himachal’s youth abroad, the state can both mitigate domestic unemployment and harness the potential of its young population, making it a win-win for both the individuals and the state’s economy.
