Crashed car
Shimla, March 26: A devastating road accident in the capital of Himachal Pradesh claimed the lives of four people late Tuesday night. The tragic incident occurred near the Lalpani Bridge on the Anandpur-Mehli road, falling under the jurisdiction of the Shoghi police post in the Baluganj police station area.
According to the police, a car (HP 07D 1154) veered out of control and plunged into a deep gorge, instantly killing all four people inside. The victims have been identified as the driver, Jai Singh Negi (40), a resident of Sanjauli, his wife Rupa Suryavanshi (45), their 14-year-old daughter Pragati, and their 10-year-old neighbor Mukul, son of Hetram, from Navbahar, Shimla. Three of the deceased were members of the same family, and the fourth, Mukul, was their neighbor.
The accident took place when the car was nearing the Lalpani bridge late in the night. For reasons yet to be determined, the driver reportedly lost control of the vehicle, causing it to fall off the road and into the deep gorge. Since the incident occurred during the night, immediate assistance could not be provided, adding to the difficulty of the situation.
Upon receiving the distress call, a team of local police officers, along with the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) and fire department personnel, rushed to the scene. Despite the darkness and the challenging terrain, the rescue teams worked tirelessly to retrieve the bodies from the ravine. The operation, however, faced significant hurdles due to the nighttime conditions, which delayed the process.
Once the bodies were recovered, they were transported to the Indira Gandhi Medical College (IGMC) Hospital in Shimla for post-mortem. A Shimla police officer confirmed that the autopsies would be conducted on Wednesday morning, after which the bodies would be handed over to the grieving families for final rites.
In the wake of the tragic incident, a case has been registered at the Baluganj police station, and an investigation into the cause of the accident is underway. The exact reason for the car losing control is yet to be determined, and authorities are working to gather more information from the scene.
This devastating accident has deeply saddened the families involved, as well as the local community. The tragic loss of life, particularly of a mother, daughter, and their young neighbor, has left the residents of Shimla in shock and mourning. The authorities are offering condolences to the bereaved families and have promised a thorough investigation into the matter.
Local residents have expressed concern over the safety of the road, especially at night, and are calling for measures to be taken to prevent further accidents in the area. With the loss of four lives, the community has been left grappling with the harsh reality of the dangers posed by the hilly terrain and poor visibility on certain stretches of road.
The police and emergency services have urged drivers to exercise extreme caution, particularly when traveling along winding mountain roads, and to avoid driving at night unless absolutely necessary.
This tragic event serves as a stark reminder of the risks involved in traveling through challenging and often unpredictable terrain. The families of the victims, along with the entire Shimla community, are left to cope with the emotional aftermath of this sudden and devastating loss.
