Jairam Thakur Accuses CM of Misleading the House on Nalagarh Mining Issue
Leader of Opposition Jairam Thakur
Shimla, March 25: In a sharp attack on the state government, Leader of Opposition Jairam Thakur accused Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu of presenting false facts in the Himachal Pradesh Assembly regarding the mining activities in Nalagarh. Thakur’s comments came in response to the Chief Minister’s statements about the mining leases in the region, which he claims were misleading and not based on actual records.
Speaking to the press after the session, Jairam Thakur strongly criticized the Chief Minister for what he described as a habitual tendency to lie in the Assembly. Thakur alleged that the previous government did not grant a single new mining lease in Nalagarh during its tenure, contrary to the claims made by Sukhu in the House. “The Chief Minister’s statements were entirely false, and it raises serious questions about his credibility in the state,” Thakur said, emphasizing that such misleading statements were detrimental to the transparency and accountability expected from the state’s leadership.
Thakur also brought attention to a specific case in Nalagarh, where 600 bighas of land are reportedly registered under the name of the wife of a Congress MLA. This, he claimed, highlights potential conflicts of interest and raises further concerns regarding the mining policies in the region. He pointed out that such developments raise suspicions of favoritism and land misuse, undermining the integrity of the mining process.
In his address, the Leader of Opposition further warned government officials not to indulge in political maneuvers. He stated, “Officers should focus on their duties and refrain from becoming part of political games. If they continue to engage in such activities, they will have to face the consequences.” Thakur’s remarks were seen as a veiled threat to government officials who might be seen as aligning with political interests, urging them to maintain impartiality.
Thakur’s criticism comes at a time when the mining industry in Himachal Pradesh has been under increasing scrutiny, with several allegations of irregularities and lack of transparency in the allocation of mining leases. The opposition has long been vocal about what it perceives as a lack of accountability in the state’s mining sector, and Thakur’s remarks are likely to intensify the debate on this issue.
The CM’s office, however, has yet to respond to these allegations, and it remains to be seen how the government will address the concerns raised by the Leader of Opposition. With the matter of mining leases in Nalagarh now in the spotlight, it is expected that this issue will continue to dominate political discussions in the state in the coming days.
As the political temperatures rise, the people of Himachal Pradesh are awaiting clarity on the state’s mining policies and whether the allegations of corruption and political favoritism will lead to a deeper investigation into the sector.
