Shimla, March 25: A shocking incident has surfaced at a reputed government school in Shimla, where a teacher has been accused of misbehaving with students and forcing them to slap their classmates. The case came to light following a complaint lodged by the mother of a 10-year-old student, leading to the registration of an FIR against the teacher.
The incident allegedly took place during a Sanskrit class on Monday. According to the complaint filed by the student’s mother, the teacher instructed all the children to memorize the meanings of certain words. When the teacher began asking the students for their answers, many failed to provide the correct meanings. In response to this, the teacher reportedly ordered the students to stand up and slap their classmates who had not answered correctly.
One of the students, reportedly feeling a sense of fear, slapped her classmate lightly as instructed. However, the teacher allegedly reacted aggressively, slapping the student hard and telling her that this was the proper way to strike. Shockingly, the teacher also slapped two other students who had answered correctly, further escalating the situation.
The 10-year-old student, visibly upset and distressed by the experience, went home and immediately shared the details of the incident with her mother. Concerned for her child’s well-being, the mother filed a formal complaint with the police. The authorities, taking the matter seriously, registered an FIR against the teacher, citing Section 115(2) BNS of the Indian Penal Code and Section 75 of the Juvenile Justice Act.
This case has raised serious concerns about the behavior of teachers in educational institutions and their treatment of students. While corporal punishment has been banned in India for years, incidents like this highlight that such practices continue to occur in some schools, despite legal prohibitions. Educational authorities and child welfare advocates have condemned the teacher’s actions, emphasizing the importance of creating safe and supportive learning environments for children.
The police have initiated an investigation into the matter, and the accused teacher is expected to be questioned. If found guilty, the teacher could face severe legal consequences under the Juvenile Justice Act, which deals with offenses against children. The case has also drawn attention to the broader issue of student-teacher relations and the need for stronger safeguards against abuse in schools.
In the wake of this incident, child rights groups have called for stricter enforcement of anti-corporal punishment laws, urging authorities to ensure that children are protected from any form of physical or emotional harm in the classroom. Many have also called for more awareness programs for teachers to help them better understand child psychology and the importance of positive reinforcement in the learning process.
The Shimla incident serves as a stark reminder that incidents of abuse can happen anywhere, and it is crucial for parents, teachers, and the community to remain vigilant in safeguarding the rights of children. As the investigation progresses, many hope that this case will send a clear message about the importance of protecting children from all forms of abuse, especially in educational settings where they should feel safe to learn and grow.
The Shimla Police have assured the public that they will take appropriate legal action based on the findings of the investigation, and steps will be taken to ensure the safety and well-being of students in all schools across the region.
