Shimla, March 24: The Special Investigation Team (SIT) of Shimla Police has ramped up its investigation into the suspicious death of Vimal Negi, the Chief Engineer of Himachal Pradesh Power Corporation Limited (HPPCL). The SIT, which was constituted by the Shimla Superintendent of Police, has been actively questioning several employees from the HPPCL, including those associated with the Pekhubela Solar Project, as part of its ongoing probe into the case.

According to sources, the investigation saw a flurry of activity over the weekend. On Saturday, the SIT worked late into the night, and interrogations continued throughout Sunday evening. During this intense investigation, the police seized important documents and electronic equipment from the Power Corporation’s office, which may hold key evidence related to Negi’s death.

The SIT, chaired by Additional Superintendent of Police (Headquarters), comprises a seven-member team, including ASP Navdeep Singh, DSP Shakti Singh, and cyber experts. The team is focused on unraveling the circumstances surrounding the death of Vimal Negi, whose passing has sparked significant concern and controversy.

Allegations of Harassment and Mental Torture

Family members of the late Chief Engineer have accused senior officials at HPPCL of harassment and mental torture. They claim that Negi was under immense stress due to the pressure from higher-ups and the overwhelming workload, which they believe may have led to his tragic death. Based on the family’s complaint, the Shimla Police have registered a case of abetment to suicide against three officials from the Himachal Pradesh Power Corporation.

The allegations of harassment have cast a shadow over the investigation, with the family members claiming that Negi’s situation had become unbearable in the weeks leading up to his death. They are calling for a thorough investigation into the role of these officials and any potential involvement in Negi’s untimely demise.

Post-Mortem Report and the Mystery of Death

The post-mortem report, which was made public, revealed that Vimal Negi had died approximately five to six days before his body was discovered. His body showed no visible injury marks, but the exact cause of death remains unclear. While it is suspected that his death could have been due to drowning, further forensic investigations are being conducted to rule out other possibilities.

To ascertain the cause of death with certainty, the police have preserved the viscera for a diatom test and forensic analysis. The results of these tests are eagerly awaited and could provide vital clues regarding whether Negi drowned in Govind Sagar Lake or if there were other factors involved in his passing.

Timeline of Events Leading to the Discovery

Vimal Negi left Shimla for Bilaspur on March 10, and he went missing after reaching the Nauni area the following day. His family filed a missing person report at the Sadar police station in Shimla on March 11, after losing contact with him. After a prolonged search, the police, aided by local fishermen, discovered his body in Govind Sagar Lake in Bilaspur on March 18.

The mystery surrounding Negi’s death has left the local community shaken, and the investigation is being closely monitored by both the authorities and the public. As the SIT continues its inquiry, the hope is that the full truth will emerge, shedding light on the circumstances that led to the death of the senior officer and holding those responsible accountable.

The investigation remains ongoing, with the SIT exploring all angles and working towards a conclusion that will bring justice to Vimal Negi and his grieving family.
