Solan, March 23, 2025: Governor Shiv Pratap Shukla delivered a powerful message to the youth during his address at the 8th convocation of Shoolini University in Solan. In his speech, he urged the graduating students to stay away from the destructive influence of drugs, emphasizing their harmful impact on individual potential, family integrity, and national development.

The convocation ceremony marked a significant milestone for 1,254 graduates and postgraduates, with 105 students receiving doctoral degrees and 20 others being awarded merit certificates for outstanding academic achievements. The Governor honored 34 exemplary students with gold medals for their exceptional contributions in various fields.

Governor Shukla praised the leadership of the university, acknowledging Chancellor Prof. PK Khosla, Pro-Chancellor Prof. Vishal Anand, and Vice-Chancellor Prof. Atul Khosla for their efforts in positioning Shoolini University among the top educational institutions. He highlighted the role of education in shaping the future of society and urged students to harness their academic knowledge and skills to contribute to the nation’s progress.

“Today marks the beginning of your journey into the cultural, professional, and personal spheres of life. As you step forward, remember to use the knowledge and abilities you’ve gained here to serve your society and your country,” said the Governor. He encouraged students to stay connected with their cultural roots while striving to create meaningful change in the world.

The Governor also spoke about the transformative changes in India’s education system, especially with the introduction of the New Education Policy (NEP). Drawing inspiration from ancient centers of learning like Takshila and Nalanda, he underscored the importance of a multidisciplinary and holistic education approach in today’s world. He also credited Indian mathematicians for their groundbreaking contributions, including the concept of zero, which has had a profound impact on global mathematics.

However, it was his remarks on drug abuse that took center stage. Shukla called drug addiction a serious societal evil, one that is increasingly affecting young people and undermining their potential. “Drugs not only harm the individual’s ability but also destroy the fabric of the family and the nation as a whole,” he remarked. He urged the graduates to be ambassadors for change by spreading awareness about the dangers of drug abuse and committing themselves to a drug-free life.

In a move to institutionalize this commitment, the Governor suggested that Shoolini University include a column in its admission forms, where students will pledge not to engage in drug use. To further demonstrate his commitment to environmental sustainability, Governor Shukla planted an avocado sapling on the university campus, promoting the importance of green initiatives.

Additionally, the Governor inaugurated the Atal Community Innovation Centre at Shoolini University, under the Atal Innovation Mission of Niti Aayog. This center aims to foster creativity and innovation among students and the local community, providing a platform for technological and entrepreneurial growth.

The event was attended by a distinguished gathering, including Dr. Monica Kennedy, Head of the Australian Trade and Investment Commission in New Delhi; Chandra Prakash Verma, Secretary to the Governor; Prof. Vishal Anand; Saroj Khosla, Chairperson of the Foundation for Life Sciences and Business Management; and Padmashri Dr. Sobti, former Vice Chancellor of Punjab University.

Prof. Khosla took the opportunity to brief the Governor on the achievements of the university, noting that Shoolini has now been recognized as one of the top 200 universities globally, marking a significant milestone in its academic journey.

As the ceremony concluded, the Governor’s call to action against drug abuse, along with his encouragement to leverage education for societal change, resonated strongly with the graduates, leaving them with a sense of responsibility toward their communities and their nation.
