BJP to Protest Outside Himachal Assembly Over Firing Incident, Law and Order Concerns
BJP state spokesperson and MLA Rakesh Jamwal during the press conference
Mandi, March 23, 2025: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has intensified its criticism of the Himachal Pradesh government and police force following a recent firing incident in Mandi. At a press conference held in Mandi, BJP state spokesperson and Sundernagar MLA Rakesh Jamwal raised serious concerns about the state’s deteriorating law and order situation, accusing the government of failing to protect its citizens.
The controversy erupted after a person was shot in broad daylight in Mandi, and when he sought help from the police, he was advised to go to the hospital rather than being assisted on-site. According to Jamwal, this response is a clear indication of the breakdown of law enforcement in the state. “This incident highlights the complete collapse of law and order in Himachal Pradesh. The victim sought immediate assistance from the police, only to be dismissed with the advice to go to the hospital. What has happened to the law enforcement in the state?” Jamwal questioned.
Jamwal also pointed out that even Congress leaders, who were once believed to be influential figures, are no longer safe, underscoring the growing insecurity among the people of the state. “Even Congress leaders themselves are not safe in this state. The law and order situation has completely crumbled under this government,” he said.
The BJP spokesperson further expressed his concern that the accused in the Mandi firing incident remain at large, suggesting that the police and government have failed to take adequate action. “It is unfortunate that the culprits behind this crime are still free. Despite a clear breach of public safety, no significant progress has been made in catching the accused,” Jamwal stated.
Criticism of State Government’s Rule
Jamwal did not hold back in his criticism of the state government, accusing the ruling Congress party of allowing a “mafia rule” to thrive in Himachal Pradesh. According to Jamwal, during the current government’s two and a quarter years in power, lawlessness has increased, and development work in the state has come to a standstill. “The state government has shown no real progress or commitment to development. Instead, it has created an environment of fear and insecurity, benefiting only a few, while stalling important infrastructure and development projects,” Jamwal said.
BJP’s March 27 Protest
In response to what it deems as the government’s failure to maintain law and order, the BJP has announced plans for a large-scale protest on March 27, 2025. The party has called for a demonstration outside the Himachal Pradesh Vidhan Sabha (State Legislative Assembly) in Shimla. Thousands of BJP workers are expected to take part in the protest, which will focus on the increasing hooliganism and the government’s failure to address public safety concerns.
“We will open a front against this government’s failures. The protest on March 27 will be a powerful statement from the people of Himachal Pradesh. It is time for the government to listen and take action,” Jamwal declared.
In addition to Jamwal, the press conference was attended by several prominent BJP leaders, including Mandi District BJP President Nihal Chand Sharma, Municipal Corporation Mandi Mayor Virendra Bhatt, and other local BJP figures, all of whom voiced their dissatisfaction with the current administration.
As the state prepares for the upcoming protest, the tension between the ruling Congress party and the opposition BJP continues to escalate, with both sides gearing up for a significant showdown on March 27. The fate of the Mandi firing case and the broader issue of law and order in Himachal Pradesh remains a critical topic for debate and scrutiny in the coming days.
