Mandi, March 21: A tragic incident occurred on Thursday afternoon when two youths, both ITI trainees, drowned while bathing in the Parvati River near Bihali village in Sainj Pin, located in the Mandi district of Himachal Pradesh. The incident has left the local community in shock and sent waves of sorrow through the region.
According to reports, the two young trainees, Dharmendra, son of Geetanand, a resident of Murah in Tehsil Bali Chowki, and Ghanshyam Singh, son of Daya Ram, a resident of Kahara in Tehsil Bali Chowki, were part of a group of ITI students from Thalot. The group had arrived at the Electricity Board office in Larji for practical training when the two boys decided to take a bath in the Parvati River, which flows nearby.
Unfortunately, the river’s waters were deep, and both youths were swept away, drowning in the swift currents. The news of the drowning was immediately reported to local authorities, prompting a swift response from both the police and the district administration. Rescue operations were launched right away, with help from local villagers and experts, but the recovery efforts were hampered by the river’s deep and treacherous waters.
The rescue team worked tirelessly through Thursday afternoon and into the night under the supervision of SDM (Sub-Divisional Magistrate) Banjar, Pankaj Sharma. Local divers and other experts were brought in to assist in the search, but, despite the continued efforts, no trace of the two trainees was found by late night. The operation was suspended until Friday morning, with authorities vowing to intensify their efforts the following day.
SDM Pankaj Sharma addressed the ongoing rescue efforts, stating, “The police and administration teams are working with full commitment, and we are doing everything possible to locate the bodies. The operation will continue on Friday, and we are hopeful of finding the youths soon. We have also appealed to the public to remain vigilant around the river and ensure that such incidents are prevented in the future.”
The incident has sent a wave of grief throughout the local community, and residents have expressed deep concern over the safety of individuals near the river. In light of the tragedy, local residents have called on the administration to implement stronger safety measures along the riverbanks to prevent such fatal accidents in the future.
The police and the administration have urged people to exercise caution when near rivers, particularly during bathing or other recreational activities. It is also advised that children be supervised at all times to avoid similar accidents in the future. The incident serves as a stark reminder of the dangers that river currents can pose, even in seemingly calm waters.
As the rescue operation continues, the local community remains hopeful that the bodies of the two young men will be recovered soon, bringing closure to this tragic event. The families of Dharmendra and Ghanshyam Singh are being supported by the community during this difficult time, and the entire region is in mourning over their untimely loss.
