Una, March 21: In a significant operation by the Himachal Pradesh State Vigilance and Anti-Corruption Bureau, District Labor Officer Ranbir Singh was arrested red-handed on charges of accepting a bribe of ₹10,000. The action was taken in response to a complaint filed by a labor contractor from the Tahliwal Industrial Area.

The complainant, Rajat Kumar, a labor contractor working in the Tahliwal Industrial Area, reported to the Vigilance Bureau that Ranbir Singh had demanded a bribe of ₹10,000 from him in exchange for renewing his labor license. According to Rajat Kumar’s complaint, Singh had made it clear that the payment was required to facilitate the renewal of the necessary license, which is critical for Rajat’s operations in the area.

Based on the complaint, the Vigilance Bureau immediately set up a trap. The complainant, following the agreed plan, approached the District Labor Officer and handed over the bribe amount. As soon as Singh took the money, the Vigilance team moved in swiftly and apprehended him on the spot. The operation took place in the office of the District Labor Officer in Una, where the bribe was exchanged.

This arrest comes at a time when Ranbir Singh is already facing allegations of corruption. A previous case against him was registered on February 2, 2022, in which he was accused of accepting a bribe of ₹26,000. This earlier bribe was reportedly taken in exchange for issuing a registration certificate under the Himachal Pradesh Shops and Commercial Establishments Act, 1969.

DSP Feroz Khan from the Vigilance and Anti-Corruption Bureau confirmed the arrest and stated that an interrogation of the accused is ongoing. He further noted that Singh’s bank accounts and other assets will be thoroughly investigated to track down any other potential illegal activities or illicit gains. The Bureau is also examining whether Singh has extorted money from other individuals in a similar manner, ensuring that all aspects of his corrupt practices are uncovered.

The arrest of a government officer in such a high-profile case highlights the continued efforts of the Himachal Pradesh Vigilance and Anti-Corruption Bureau to crack down on corruption within the state. The Bureau has been actively monitoring public officials and taking stringent action against those engaged in illegal practices, particularly in exchange for favors or services.

This incident has drawn widespread attention, with local residents and business owners praising the vigilance operation for its swift and efficient handling. The actions of the Vigilance Bureau in arresting Ranbir Singh send a strong message about the state’s commitment to combating corruption and holding public officials accountable for their actions.

As the investigation progresses, authorities are determined to identify whether other cases of bribery or extortion are linked to the accused officer. The people of Una and the wider community are now awaiting further developments, hopeful that justice will be served and that the integrity of government institutions will be upheld.
