Two-and-a-Half-Year-Old Child Drowns In Well In Hamirpur: Tragic Death
Hamirpur, March 10, 2025: The town of Nadaun in Hamirpur district witnessed a horrific incident when a two and a half year old child died of drowning in a well in front of his mother. The incident occurred in Ward No. 1 of the Municipal Council, where the family lives in a slum. The child’s death, at such an early age, has left the community and family in deep shock and sorrow.
According to reports, the child’s father, Arvind Sahni, had gone to work at the time of the incident. His mother, Rani, was washing clothes nearby when the child, who was playing, wandered off toward the open well. In a moment of distraction, the child fell into the water.
Another child playing nearby witnessed the horrific scene. When the passerby saw the kid fall into the well, they called for help immediately. The child was then pulled out of the well by a brave boy named Aneesh who quickly made his way to the site and could have likely saved the child from further damage. But the child was unconscious and unresponsive when he was removed from the water, despite their best efforts.
The child was immediately taken to a nearby hospital by a crowd of local youths without wasting any time. Unfortunately, the doctors declared the child dead after examining him. His death was determined to be caused by drowning, which left the family heartbroken.
It is not yet known if the child was alone when the accident happened or if any others were with the child at the time. The police have opened an investigation into the circumstances of the drowning and is looking into the case. The child’s remains have been dispatched for postmortem examination, which will confirm the exact cause of death.
SP Hamirpur, Bhagat Singh Thakur, assured the public that the investigation is underway. The actual reason for the death will be confirmed about the postmortem report, he said. Police are also trying to put together what led to the tragedy to make sure no foul play was involved.
The case has drawn an expression of woe from the local community, with many locals offering their sympathies to the bereaved family. The open well where the child fell has raised concerns about safety in the area, particularly in residential areas where children are frequently seen playing near hazardous, unsecured zones. It also raised discussions about better safety in such sensitive locations, especially in slums and other high-risk areas.
The investigators were still on the case, while the family was left to grieve one more young life lost too soon, too tragically. We call on the authorities to take the necessary steps to avoid the occurrence of any such unfortunate incident in the future, and to provide the safety of children of the area in this regard.
