Driver injured in massive collision between tipper and tanker in Solan
Massive collision between tipper and tanker
March 10, 2025: The tipper collided with the tanker in a serious accident on the Chandigarh-Shimla National Highway (NH-5), near Wakna Ghat, due to which the tanker driver was seriously injured. The driver, who is injured, has been admitted to the Indira Gandhi Medical College (IGMC) in Shimla for treatment.
According to early reports, the accident was caused by ongoing four-lane construction work on the highway. The NHAI has blocked one lane of the road as part of construction, and now vehicles travelling in two directions flow into the same lane making it prone to accidents.
The tanker was on its way from Shimla to Solan while the tipper was moving in the opposite direction (Solan to Shimla), said eyewitnesses. The crash took place suddenly at Wakna Ghat, causing a huge traffic jam on the highway.
“Kandaghat and Kaithlighat passages have already been disrupted badly due to ongoing construction work. The closure of one lane at multiple locations along the route has led vehicles to drive in single-file, making the traffic and chances of an accident worse. Now, local authorities are asking drivers to be very careful in these construction zones.
This isn’t the first incident of its kind. Since the width of the lanes is reduced and NH-5, at present, has a huge traffic density, many drivers are facing problems in the route which has caused a number of accidents in the past few weeks.
The authorities are closely monitoring the situation, and they have promised to take steps to enhance safety here. Yet more than just construction of the work is getting implemented which means drivers must remain vigilant and obey the traffic laws so avoid additional accidents.
The highway continues to face heavy traffic, especially during peak hours, as it is an important route for commuters between Shimla and Solan. “Coordination with NHAI is being done to implement a permanent solution to the issues associated with ongoing construction that would allow for more safer travel by all road users.”
