Shimla, March 8: Chief Minister Thakur Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu today announced an allocation of Rs 146.34 crore for construction of underground utility ducts in the city, in a big push to strengthen the city’s public works. During a meeting chaired by the Chief Minister with the PWD on Friday to review the status of construction work from Chhota Shimla to Willy Park and other important areas of the city, this ambitious project was discussed.

These underground utility ducts are important for the cities because they will ensure that residents as well as tourists do not have to deal with the trouble of damaging roads for installation. The project will facilitate round-the-clock power supply even under adverse weather conditions, including heavy snowfall, and will also significantly beautify Shimla, enabling tourists to witness the historical beauty of the city without eyesores of overhead cables, he added.

“Culling the repeated digging of roads for utility installations, we are embarking on the construction of underground utility ducts. This will make the city well-planned and make the distribution of essential services like water pipelines, electricity lines and fibre optic cables more systematic, safe and efficient,” Chief Minister Sukhu said.

The Chief Minister also assured that the project complied with the state government’s “Green Himachal” initiative and that the work would not harm the environment in any way. He added that special attention will be given to minimizing hardship for the public while the project is being carried out.

These underground ducts will help in managing the utilities in a better way and also enhance the resilience of the city to weather changes which normally happens in hilly areas like Shimla. End of the article This will definitely raise the standard of the life of local people and will also aid Shimla in becoming the tourist mainstay.

Besides improving infrastructure, the project is in line with the current government’s grand plan to promote tourism in Himachal Pradesh. To achieve this, the state is coming up with a string of initiatives to ensure that the infrastructure keeps up with the increased influx of visitors and provide a more comfortable and memorable experience to them.

Among those present at the meeting were Additional Chief Secretary KK Pant, Principal Secretary Devesh Kumar, Secretary to the Chief Minister Rakesh Kanwar, and senior officials of the Public Works Department.
