Shimla, March 8: In a major breakthrough in a drug trafficking case, the Shimla police has arrested three persons, including a woman, involved in the illegal drug trade. The case is related to the Kunihar police station area where a drug smuggling gang was busted. Himanshu, a resident of Arki, had earlier been arrested in the case, police said. His supplier, Vishal Thakur from Mohali, was also caught by the police with 140 grams of chitta (a kind of heroin) from Zirakpur.

This drug racket had also engaged a woman, which was revealed during the investigation. The woman, whom police identified as Meenakshi, was initially nabbed with Vishal and Zirakpur. However, since it was late at night, she was given a notice to appear for further questioning. But, trying to avoid the law, Meenakshi deactivated her phone and fled to the hideout. Apart from fleeing with Vishal’s valuables, the accused woman also withdrew Rs 20,000 from his bank account and tried to destroy other crucial evidence.

When the police found about Meenakshi escaped, they quickly launched a major search operation to catch her. The police had alleged that the technical investigations led them to the Rohru area in Shimla. The 31 - year – old woman, Meenakshi, is resident of Kailash Chand in Rohru Tehsil and was arrested on March 7.

Two weeks later, further investigations revealed that Meenakshi was also a drug trafficker. She was earlier involved in the narcotics case in Kharar, Punjab, from where 60 grams of chitta/heroin were recovered from her.

Shimla’s Superintendent of Police, Sanjeev Gandhi, confirmed the arrests and said the police have so far taken three people into custody. He said that Meenakshi will be produced in court on Saturday. Authorities are currently investigating the drug smuggling gang, and continue to search for other suspects.

Now, Police is determined to break the entire network involved in this business and this arrest is the biggest achievement so far against drug abuse in the region.”
