Himachal Government Asks Selection Commission to Fill 937 TGT, 1762 JBT Posts

Shimla, 02 March – In a big move to strengthen the education system in Himachal Pradesh, the state government has sought that 937 posts of Trained Graduate Teachers (TGT) and 1762 Junior Basic Trained (JBT) teacher be filled through direct recruitment by the Himachal Pradesh State Selection Commission (HPSSC). Today, Education Minister Rohit Thakur announced that the Government is committed to improving Education in the state.

In total, the request for the filling of 937 TGT posts falling in 3 categories — Arts, Medical, and Non-Medical. These are contractual recruitment in direct and will ensure that the schools in the state have enough competent educators. The government has also taken initiative to fill the posts of 1295 JBT teachers which is also essential in making the primary education system more robust.

In addition to these new recruitments, the government had directed the commission to fill 467 vacant JBT (junior basic trained) posts created during the last government that were not filled. Thus, the state government is going to fill a total of 1762 JBT posts, which will be a big relief for the teachers working in the government-run schools of the state.

In this regard, Minister Thakur mentioned that the government already filled the vacant posts in batches and now need to ensure that these vacant posts must also be filled on a timely basis. He said that the government’s top priority is to provide quality education in the state and provide sufficient teacher in every educational institutions.

The Minister further highlighted the endeavours of the government in the favourable upgradation of infrastructure in education while aiming to provide the best latest facilities to the students. To this end, the state government has been establishing Rajiv Gandhi Day-Boarding Schools in each assembly constituency. These schools encompass everything a child needs – a holistic education that prepares them to tackle life’s hurdles with confidence.

The Minister also added that there had also been a great improvement in the literacy rate of the state, which is over 83 per cent today as against the literacy rate of 7 per cent in 1971, when the state of Himachal Pradesh became a Full-fledged State. This dramatic advancement in literacy is evidence of the state’s dedication to education, he said.

He noted that the state government had always prioritised education, as demonstrated by the significant allocation of almost 20 percent of the total state budget to the education sector. This would be a symbol of the government’s commitment towards bringing qualitative changes in the education field. The fruits of such works can be seen in the latest national reports, a clear revealing the government lead education system are on tracks.

The Education Minister ended by saying that the government is focused on making reforms in the education sector, so that the state’s educational institutions do not lag behind from modern times. The government has laid a foundation for a better future for Himachal Pradesh children by filling these key teaching positions and providing improved resources, especially in the most neglected corners of the state, the rural areas.
