Una, February 27: An accident occurred on the Una-Kangra road in Basal village of Una district on Thursday afternoon when a car collided with a truck, injuring five people including two children. Significant damage was reported to both vehicles in the accident on the busy Amb-Una road during rainfall. Nearby locals immediately helped the injured victims, who were taken to the Regional Hospital Una where they are being treated.

Reports said the car, registered in Punjab, was on its way from Amb to Una when it collided head-on with a truck coming from the other side. The crash was so devastating the vehicle and truck were badly damaged, though, thankfully, the truck didn’t plough off the road and smash into a nearby roadside shop, potentially leading to even greater carnage.

Gagandeep, Neetu, Sarvjeet, Pari and Veer, who were in the car and lived in Ludhiana, were injured in the accident. They include two children, Pari and Veer, who were said to be in critical condition and are now having treatment.

Local residents from Basal reached the spot immediately after the collision and assisted in taking injured persons to the Regional Hospital Una. Police were called and went to the scene to investigate. They are trying to find out what caused the accident and whether weather conditions or driver error contributed to the crash.

Rakesh Singh, Superintendant of Police, Una said that they would be probing the matter. He said the authorities are investigating all aspects of the accident to bring justice to the victims and avoid similar events in the future.

This incident has once again brought into focus the key issue of road safety and the need to be extra careful on the roads especially during inclement weather when it is raining. Local people have been expressing concern as the number of accidents on the Amb-Una road is on rise and are demanding a stringent implementation of laws in the region for the safety of vehicles.

The investigation is ongoing, with emphasis put on caring for the wounded victims and clarifying the root cause behind the crash. Authorities are also likely to scrutinize whether there were any safety violations, including speeding or inadequate vehicle maintenance, that played a role in the crash.

The injured patients have been attended to and on response: They are stable while hospital staff works hard to ensure they recovered. But local residents have said they were grateful that the truck hadn’t crashed into nearby shops, which would have made things much worse.
