Hamirpur, 22 February – Natalie, a woman from London, and Pradeep Sharma, a man from Hamirpur, are new evidence that love transcends distance, tradition and even nationality. Their love story, which started in a restaurant in Canada, concluded on Thursday night in the picturesque town of Hamirpur in Himachal Pradesh with a lavish Hindu wedding.

Theirs is, after all, the stuff of a contemporary fairy tale. Natalie and Pradeep both had jobs in Canada, where they first met through a restaurant owned by a family member. Their connection was stronger than the friends, so much so that after their first meeting, it developed into a strong and committed love. On Thursday night, Natalie and Pradeep celebrated their wedding with a traditional Indian ceremony in a palace in Hamirpur, which gave them a beautiful backdrop for their union. In the presence of close family and friends, including Natalie’s extended family and parents who had come from London, they exchanged their wedding vows in a Hindu wedding ceremony.

Traditional wedding rituals including the sindoor ceremony and pheras ( seven rounds around sacred fire), amongst many others, also formed a part of the ceremony. The couple’s relatives who had flown in from far-flung worlds looked teary-eyed at the celebration of their connection of hearts but also of cultures.

Though rooted in tradition, the wedding was also a cultural mash-up. “Just watching everything here in London, my friends expressed huge admiration for all this rich cultural heritage, for a place they now were part of. They were fascinated by the Indian wedding rituals, which were new to them and had great words to say about how it was an unforgettable experience for them.

Natalie has deep-rooted love towards Indian traditions and therefore made sure to be true to her Indian roots. The pictures posted revealed a woman thoroughly involved in the rituals, passionate about the culture. For the foreign guests, this wedding was a rare footage of what happens in India that they had never seen. The celebrations filled with warmth, the rituals with meaning and the atmosphere with joy meant it would be a day they would remember forever. Many of the guests spoke about how special it was to see love and commitment celebrated in such a rich and meaningful way.
