Shimla, February 18 – A delegation of 23 (NCC) cadets of Himachal Pradesh who attended in the Republic Day Camp 2025, called on Governor of Himachal Pradesh, Shiv Pratap Shukla at Raj Bhavan today. The cadets were part on an integrated batch of 93 cadets from Punjab, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh and Chandigarh and had gathered to share their experience from the national event.

He congratulated the cadets for their remarkable achievement in representing Himachal Pradesh in such a prestigious national event. He expressed appreciation for their dedication and commitment, asserting that the Republic Day celebrations are a matter of great pride for the state. He also stressed that being a member of the NCC is not only a matter of physical training, but is a way to provide implementations of other values such as discipline, leadership, patriotism and devotion to the nation.

NCC An Organisation Making Good Citizens

During the ceremony, Governor Shukla said that the training provided to the cadets at the Republic Day Camp would serve as a foundation in their development into responsible citizens. The skills the cadets learn from the camp would build their character and motivate them to become role models in the communities, he added. “The NCC is a platform not only to give you physical fitness but exercises your mind to be a better citizen and an ambassador of unity and discipline,” said the Governor.

He also praised the cadets for becoming the torchbearers of the rich heritage of Himachal Pradesh, which is known as “Veer Bhoomi” (Land of the Brave). Expressing pride in the significant contributions made by the youth of Himachal Pradesh to the national defense forces and service sectors, Shukla urged the cadets to carry forward this legacy. “You carry the torch of this splendid tradition,” he said.

One Himachal: Create A Himachal Free From Drugs

Commending the fundamental essence of the NCC – “Unity and Discipline, Governor Shukla urged the cadets to follow these principles in their day-to-day life. These values, he insisted, were important both to help them grow into better human beings and to make the world a better place to live. “Unity and discipline are the cornerstone of every successful nation, so I hope you all uphold these principles wherever you go,” he added.

Along with the emphasis on unity and discipline, there was also an opportunity to help with the growing problem of drugs in the state, as the Governor did. He called upon the cadets to take an active part in the battle against the drug menace by spreading awareness about the ill effects of drugs in their schools, colleges and society. “Your good example should not only be a drug-free life for you but also a drug-free life for others. “Help create a drug-free Himachal Pradesh,” he remarked, referring to the role the cadets could play in ensuring a healthier, safe environs for the future generation.

Thanks and Appreciation

The vote of thanks was presented by Brigadier Rowen, NCC Group Headquarters, Shimla at the end of the session. He thanked the Governor for his kind and supportive remarks and evident interest in the cadets. The eminent members present in the event included, Secretary to Governor Chandra Prakash Verma, Deputy Commander Colonel AS Bains, Training Officer Colonel Ravi Kumar Saini and Commanding Officer Lieutenant Colonel Praveen Thakur, amongst other officers and training staff of the NCC Group Shimla.

The cadets had a memorable day and were able to have a collective reflection of the events besides being enlightened by the Governor on how the cadets can be of service to their communities and the country in general.
