Political Controversy Erupts as Former HP CM Virbhadra Singh’s Foundation Plaque Found Discarded
Hamirpur, February 15: A political storm has brewed in Himachal Pradesh after the foundation plaque commemorating a project initiated by former Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh was found discarded under a tree near the Block Development Office in Hamirpur on Friday evening. The plaque, which dates back to 1996 when Singh was in office, was reportedly removed from its original location, sparking widespread controversy in the home district of current CM Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu.
The discovery has triggered political outrage, with many calling for a formal investigation into the incident. Naradev Kanwar, Chairman of the Workers’ Welfare Board, voiced strong concerns, demanding a thorough probe into the removal and placement of the plaque. The discarded plaque was found near a displaced board of the Agriculture Department’s sales center, which had also been moved to accommodate a poster for the HPBOCWWB office. Kanwar has raised questions regarding the reasons behind the removal and the circumstances surrounding the plaque’s relocation.
The incident has become a flashpoint in Hamirpur, intensifying the ongoing political rivalry. Leader of Opposition Jairam Thakur quickly condemned the act, describing it as a violation of Himachal’s political traditions and an affront to the legacy of one of the state’s most prominent leaders. Thakur accused the Sukhu-led government of undermining Virbhadra Singh’s contributions to the state and called for swift and decisive action against those responsible for the removal of the plaque.
As the controversy continues to unfold, the state government faces mounting pressure to address the matter and clarify the circumstances surrounding the removal of the commemorative plaque.
