Hamirpur, February 13: Tensions erupted between traders and administrative officials in Hamirpur city on Thursday during an anti-encroachment drive on Mall Road. The conflict began when a team of Tehsildar and Municipal Corporation officials instructed shopkeepers to clear goods placed on the road’s drainage area. In response, local traders voiced their frustrations, creating a chaotic scene as the administration pushed forward with the enforcement.

Traders Protest Administration’s Move

The traders expressed their concerns, asserting that they only place goods up to the designated white strip to avoid causing inconvenience to customers, while still sustaining their businesses. They argued that the proposed removal of goods from the road drain would severely impact their sales, especially with the already limited space in the market. The traders contended that the administration’s move would threaten the survival of their businesses in an already difficult market environment.

Problems Escalate Due to Narrowing of Main Market

Hamirpur’s primary market has grown increasingly congested due to encroachments, creating significant challenges for both pedestrians and vehicular traffic. In light of these issues, the administration began its anti-encroachment measures, aiming to restore order and smooth traffic flow. However, the situation became tense as traders resisted the move, leading to a standoff. The administration emphasized that the removal of encroachments was crucial to ensure that public spaces and roads remained accessible, allowing traffic to move freely and preventing further congestion in the city.
