Shimla will get 24 hours drinking water supply from June, 90% of the pipeline laying work is complete
Shimla, February 12: Work is going on at a fast pace to ensure 24 hours drinking water supply to the capital from June. Water will be brought to Shimla from the Sutlej river, for which 90% of the pipeline laying work is complete. The work of building pump house and storage tank will be completed in March. Municipal Corporation Mayor Surendra Chauhan reached Shakrodi and Dwada on Tuesday to review the drinking water project. During this, Municipal Corporation Deputy Mayor Uma Kaushal, officials of the drinking water company and Municipal Corporation councilors were present with him.
On reaching the spot, the Mayor instructed the officials to speed up the work. He also instructed the Electricity Board to install transformers. Water will be brought from Shakrodi Sutlej river to provide 24-hour water supply to Shimla. Shimla will get 42 MLD water under the 24-hour drinking water project. 42 MLD water will be supplied to the city by the year 2035. According to the company, there is a plan to increase the water supply by 2035. After this, 65 MLD water will be supplied by the year 2050. A target of supplying 65 MLD water has been set by the year 2050.
Mayor Surinder Chauhan said that electric transformers are to be installed in drinking water projects. FCA clearance is yet to be received for the 66 kV transformer, but the company has given an amount of Rs 59 crore to the electricity board for the 66 kV transformer. In such a situation, a letter will be written to the electricity board soon regarding the installation of the transformer.
