Thai Nationals Freed from Gaza After Over a Year in Captivity
Five Thai nationals, who had been held captive in Gaza for more than a year, are finally back home after their release last month. The men, who were freed as part of a ceasefire agreement between Hamas and Israel, arrived in Bangkok on Sunday morning and were warmly greeted by their families.
As they landed at Suvarnabhumi Airport, Pongsak Thaenna, one of the released men, expressed his deep gratitude, saying, “We are all deeply touched to come back to our birthplace … to be standing here.” Bannawat Saethao’s father, Somboon, shared his joy, saying, “I don’t think I want him to be far from home again.”
Thai Foreign Minister Maris Sangiampongsa, who accompanied the captives from Israel, praised the efforts to bring them home. Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra also expressed happiness, thanking Israel and other nations involved in securing the release.
The Thai government remains committed to checking on the health status of these five men throughout the upcoming months since all are currently reported to be healthy. Members of the family community anticipate their ability to resume their ordinary routines.
